Floods can happen almost anywhere, and the damage can be significant. About 26% of all flood insurance claims come from outside of the mapped floodplain. Just one inch of flood water can cause up to $25,000 in damages. The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is managed by FEMA and delivered to the public by a network of more than 50 insurance companies and the NFIP Direct.
