November SNAP Benefit Hold Information & Resources

This page was developed to keep the community informed and updated on the status of November SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), to provide a current list of resources available to those affected, and also includes information on how the community can help the individuals and families affected. The information listed above can be found in the tabbed sections below.
Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has informed the State of Colorado that November 2025 SNAP benefits are being held. This hold affects all SNAP recipients statewide and is not a Gunnison County decision.
All current recipients of SNAP benefits will receive an official letter from the Colorado Department of Human Services announcing the hold in the coming days; some may have already received this letter. To ensure timely updates, recipients should verify that their contact information is current in their Colorado PEAK portal or through the Gunnison County Health and Human Services office. Please monitor your Colorado PEAK account for the latest information: https://co.gov/peak.
• You may continue to use your EBT card to purchase food as long as benefits remain on your card. Call the number on the back of your card to get the most up-to-date benefits balance.
• November SNAP benefits will not be issued until the federal government provides further direction.
• This change (hold to benefits) cannot be appealed, and it is unclear whether benefits will be issued retroactively once the shutdown ends.
• New applicants may still apply for benefits during this time. New applications can be submitted online through PEAK, or you can pick up an application in the breezeway/vestibule at the Health & Human Services offices, located at 220 N. Spruce St., Gunnison, CO 81230.
• Applicants applying between Oct. 17-31 will receive October benefits only for the days they are eligible in October (for example: if someone applies on Oct. 31, they will receive one day of benefits due to the hold on November benefits).
• The recertification process can and will still be done during this time.
• Medicaid benefits are not affected and will continue as usual for November.
• WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) funding is secured through November. For more information and updates, visit https://www.coloradowic.gov/alerts
• We do not have a date for when the federal government shutdown will end.
• We do not know for certain how the benefits will be distributed once the shutdown ends.
• There is not a date known for when we will receive updates. We encourage those affected to check this website, the SNAP website, and their PEAK account. Gunnison County will continue to monitor for updates from Colorado Department of Human Services and on resources daily and update this website as more information becomes available.
• Gunnison County is not aware of any impacts on Medicaid, TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) and other cash programs, WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) currently.

Gunnison Valley Basics Needs Guide
Walk-In Wednesdays: When you're in a crisis (or even when you're not), seeking out the resources you need can be challenging. That's where Walk-In Wednesday can help! With no appointment necessary, staff at Health & Human Services are available to help you explore the wide variety of resources we offer. Resources offered through Health & Human Services include food assistance, basic needs, utility assistance, Health First Colorado, multicultural resources, clinician services, health and wellness, and more. Staff can assist with identifying appropriate programs based on the need and help you connect with and apply for services. (English flyer) (Spanish flyer)

Mental Health Support
988 Colorado Mental Health Line- This service is available for free, immediate, human support 24/7. If you or someone you know is struggling with an emotional, mental health, or substance use concern, call or text 988 today. They’re there to listen. Call 911 for Emergencies.
CB State of Mind- This nonprofit organization is a mental health wellness connection. They have free community connection events, can connect you with resources, and provide therapy scholarships. Visit their website to see all the resources they help connect people with, as well as their events calendar.

Axis Health System- This organization provides behavioral health services at its Gunnison location, which includes mental health, substance use, case management, and psychiatry. They also have a wide variety of group counseling options that can be accessed in-person or virtually. A comprehensive list of services can be found on their website.

Donations made to Feeding Colorado, the partner state association of the five Feeding America food banks serving Colorado and Wyoming, will help get funds to the 5 member food banks in Colorado. Contact the food pantry or food bank located closest to you to determine what assistance they can offer. A list of the food pantries and food banks located in Gunnison and Hinsdale counties can be found by clicking on the "Food Pantries/Food Banks for SNAP Recipients and Those Affected" tabbed section. If you are unable to connect with an organization outside of their operating hours, call Health & Human Services at (970) 641-3244 Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) between 9 am and 4 pm for emergency assistance.
