Rivers in the Gunnison Valley are extremely high, very fast and cold due to the spring run-off. Under these conditions, the characteristics of the rivers are considerably different than normal. If undertaking rafting / boating activities, be aware of rapidly changing conditions, and ensure that participants are wearing proper floatation devices Those who are inexperienced with these types of river conditions should not attempt rafting activities on their own, and should consider utilizing experienced rafting companies.
Extra care should be used in activities around the rivers as well: Keep children and pets away from river's edge. Adults close to the river’s edge should wear proper floatation devices.
