GUNNISON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS & STAFF TOUR PAINTBRUSH AFFORDABLE HOUSING DEVELOPMENT

County Anticipates Units Available for Rent by Spring 2021

Gunnison County, Colo – Gunnison County Commissioners and staff recently toured the Paintbrush (formerly known as Lot 22) affordable housing development, located in Gunnison, CO adjacent to the Rock Creek development.  Paintbrush is comprised of 76 rental units that will be restricted to people with income ranges of 80-120% Area Median Income (AMI) and an additional eight unrestricted units.  The development includes a mixture of one-bedroom efficiency units and three-bedroom homes and apartments within three apartment buildings, seven townhome buildings, and six detached single-family homes in order to serve and integrate a variety of family sizes and income ranges.  Units will be available for rent by Spring 2021.

The Paintbrush project is the result of a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between Gunnison County and Gatesco, Inc., a real estate development firm with headquarters in Houston, TX and a local office in Gunnison.  The majority of work on the project has been completed using local contractors and vendors.  The project will be owned and operated by Gatesco, and a qualification process for potential renters will be available in the near future.  “We are very excited to see the Paintbrush development moving forward and going vertical. It will provide a needed opportunity for deed restricted rental housing. Gunnison County recognizes that the private public partnership with Gatesco is an amazing opportunity to highlight a model that will work in our valley. We know that creative and powerful partnerships help us all get further down the road in addressing our workforce housing issue,” said Gunnison County BOCC Chairperson Jonathan Houck.
