Throughout the summer, water quality at Blue Mesa Reservoir is continually being monitored for toxic algae. As of August 22, sampling for cyanotoxin levels were negative and below the acceptable State of Colorado public health levels at Iola Basin. Cautionary signs will remain posted around Iola Basin on Blue Mesa Reservoir due to possible future reoccurrence. Elk Creek and areas west of Elk Creek are either negative for cyanotoxin or below acceptable levels. Water quality monitoring staff continue to sample critical areas and are monitoring conditions.
