Gunnison County will be hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house on Friday, May 29, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 pm to celebrate the completion of the Gunnison County Courthouse construction project. The ribbon cutting will take place at 5:00 pm at the main entrance to the building, followed by light refreshments in the lobby. Attendees will be encouraged to peruse all of the publicly accessible portions of the building to learn more about the project and become familiar with the amenities and office locations.
Completion of the energy-efficient facility will address the urgent need for additional courtroom space and security, enhanced employee safety, and improved ADA accessibility. The Temporary Certificate of Occupancy (TCO) was issued to the County today, which will enable the Court and County offices to begin the phased process of moving into the facility. During the transition, some offices may be able to provide only basic service. All operations and staff have been displaced since mid-to-end of December 2013, and all offices, including the County and District Courts and peripheral functions, are expected to be fully operational by Monday, June 1st.
Throughout the term of the project, over 30% of the direct costs (representing $3,762,414) have been injected back into the local community’s economy as a result of utilizing over a dozen local subcontractors and many other non-local subcontractors for various aspects of the project who, in turn, hired local workers and spent money at local hotels, restaurants and stores. “I’d like to thank the Gunnison County team, GE Johnson Construction Company, Roth Sheppard Humphries Poli Architects and everyone else who worked so diligently to contribute to the success of this project. Together, we’ve built a fantastic facility that will serve the community for decades to come,” County Manager Birnie.
