News Release: Gunnison County Hires New Chief Financial Officer

GUNNISON COUNTY HIRES NEW CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Perry Solheim Selected to Lead the County’s Finance Team

Gunnison County, Colo – Gunnison County has hired Perry Solheim to serve as the new Chief Financial Officer, effective July 18, 2022.  Prior to accepting his new position and for the past few years, Perry served as the Finance/Administration Manager for Mt. Crested Butte Water & Sanitation District.   He brings over 25 years of financial and accounting industry knowledge and experience with him, including being employed as an Assistant Professor of Accounting for Western Colorado University, Fort Lewis College and Montana State University from 2007-2019.  Perry has also worked in the government/non-profit audit sector, in addition to serving as the Southern Ute Indian Tribe’s Growth Fund Controller.  

“We are very excited to welcome Perry to our team at Gunnison County.  He brings a diverse skill set derived from working in a variety of professional finance roles in many different settings.   One of the things that stood out through the interview process was Perry’s commitment to his work having meaning in the communities he serves.  This approach is a perfect fit for the culture of the County, and his financial leadership will have a positive impact on the community by ensuring our ability to fund vital services that many residents rely on,” said County Manager Matthew Birnie.

Perry obtained Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees in Economics and Philosophy (Claremont McKenna College) and Accounting (Fort Lewis College) before obtaining a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Accounting (University of Utah).  “My career has always included close involvement with government and not-for-profit accounting, from accounting management, to auditing, to board service to teaching in those areas. I look forward to this opportunity to have a positive, constructive impact on our community,” said Perry.

Perry has been in the valley for four years.  His hobbies include fly-fishing, floating, sailing, skiing and now ATVing.
