Gunnison Valley EMS and the Gunnison County Emergency Management Office are teaming up with local and regional emergency response agencies to host a disaster drill on 4/23/14. The drill is expected to run from 4-7 pm. It will involve a disaster scene at the intersection of HWY 50 and County Road 38 and response personnel will be transporting patients to the Gunnison Valley Health Emergency Department. It will appear to the public that a school bus has collided with a chemical truck just as a plan is about to take off at the airport. It is a drill ONLY. Emergency response teams and the ED will be fully functional; and available to respond to actual emergencies during that time. No roads will be closed and traffic related to the drill will be kept off main thoroughfares. The goal of the drill is to give emergency personnel hands-on experience responding to a mass casualty incident as well as identify communication gaps between agencies. Teams have been planning and training for the event since October. Questions about the drill may be directed to Brian Sharp, EMS Paramedic and Emergency Operations planner at 641-7276 or Scott Morrill, Gunnison County Emergency Manager, at 641-2481.
