[ARCHIVED] GUNNISON COUNTY SECURES PROPERTY TO PROVIDE RIVERSIDE BOAT ACCESS TO GUNNISON RIVER

GUNNISON COUNTY SECURES PROPERTY TO PROVIDE RIVERSIDE BOAT ACCESS TO GUNNISON RIVER
Partnership of Stakeholders Sought to Assist with Design, Management and Development

Gunnison County, Colorado – Gunnison County recently secured property on the north side of Gunnison (see  Figure 1), formerly known as the Shady Island Subdivision, that will serve to provide increased access and use of the Gunnison River for visitors and residents.  The County plans to improve the property to create riverside boat access and recreational amenities, and it hopes to form a strong partnership of stakeholders that will share in the design, development and management of this amenity.  “We look forward to working with the constituents and stakeholders throughout Gunnison County to create a community amenity that highlights and improves access to one of our most important regional assets,” said County Commissioner John Messner.

The County recognizes that, in many ways, the Gunnison River and its tributaries are the lifeblood of Gunnison County with domestic, agricultural and recreational uses being part of everyday lives.  Thus, improving the access and use of the Gunnison River has long been a County priority.

A public planning process will assist in determining the future design and use of this area, and a project-completion timeline will be developed during the planning process.  During development and construction of this project, public access to the property will not be allowed as several safety concerns exist.

For more information about this project, please contact Gunnison County Administration at (970) 641-0248.
