TANF/Colorado Works Specialist

Gunnison County Department of Health and Human Services seeks a qualified person to fill the 30 hour/week position of a TANF/Colorado Works Specialist. Colorado Works is Colorado's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program and provides public assistance to families in need. Colorado Works Program is designed to assist clients in becoming self-sufficient by strengthening the economic and social stability of families. Heavy Equipment Operator I

Gunnison County Public Works Department is looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator I. Must have a Class B CDL and a current Health Card. Must have equipment operator certification and/or three (3) years experience driving a truck and operating a loader and backhoe. Responsibilities include the operation of equipment and truck, maintenance and plowing of County roads, and maintenance of equipment. Airport Manager

Gunnison County, Colorado is looking for an Airport Director. This position reports to the County Manager and is responsible for organizing, directing, and coordinating the day-to-day activities and operations of the Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport (GUC). The Airport Manager plans, directs, coordinates and monitors the GUC business functions including airport operations, public safety, property management, maintenance of airport facilities, and business administration. The Airport Manager has access to an Aviation Engineering and Consulting firm for help with relations with the FAA and managing capital projects. This is an important resource for a small airport.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develops and presents short and long range plans, including master plan and capital improvement program. Determines current and future operational and maintenance needs at the airport and plans to meet those needs.
  • Directs overall airport staff by coordinating work of subordinate supervisors; is accountable for effectiveness of department’s activities; and hires, trains and evaluates employees placed under his/her jurisdiction.
  • Prepares, recommends and monitors the annual budget, and Airport Rates and Charges. Monitors the expenditure of AIP, CDA and other funds to ensure monies received from federal, state and other revenue sources is spent in compliance with funding contracts.
  • Plans, coordinates and monitors airport projects, CIP, AIP and NAPIS, construction or oversight of all projects on airport property.
  • Directs and participates in the preparation of applications for Federal and State grants and administers and evaluates grant programs.
  • Prepares bid documents, organizes and coordinates new construction projects; inspects new construction in progress for conformance with approved plans and grant requirements.
  • Responds to emergency call-outs including aircraft emergencies, snow removal, security, tenant problems, Gunnison Communications and passenger problems. Carries pager and cell phone.

Community Development Director

Gunnison County, Colorado is looking for a Community Development Director. The position reports to the County Manager and is responsible for organizing, directing, and coordinating the day to day activities and operations of the Community Development Department. The director performs with considerable independent responsibility in a variety of supervisory, administrative, technical and professional scenarios related to the development and implementation of land use and related short and long range county plans and policies.

Responsibilities include:

  • Exercises direct supervision over Assistant Director, Building Inspector, Environmental Health Official, Administrative Services Manager and other staff as necessary.
  • Provides professional planning and land use advice to County Manager, Board of Commissioners, Planning Commission, Environmental Health Board and other officials; makes private and public presentations to supervisors, boards, commissions, civic groups and the general public.
  • Develops policies and procedures designed to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of departmental operations and addresses all related planning and zoning processes, including developing and administering the departmental budget, developing annual work programs, and identifying human and capital resources needed to complete identified tasks. Serves as an official departmental representative to other county departments, County Manager’s Office, elected officials and outside agencies.
  • Manages and supervises Community Development operations to achieve goals within available resources; plans and organizes workloads and staff assignments; trains, motivates and evaluates assigned staff; reviews progress and directs changes as needed.
  • Stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the planning field, and complies with certification maintenance requirements of American Institute of Certified Planners.
  • Oversees drafting and regular revision of department Strategic Business Plan and related Managing for Results performance measures, and ensures their consistent implementation.
  • Gathers, interprets, and prepares data for studies, reports and recommendations; coordinates department activities with other departments and agencies as needed.
