Gunnison County Administration Department Earns Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for Sixth Straight Year
Gunnison County, Colorado – For the sixth straight year, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) announced that Gunnison County, Colorado’s Administration Department received the GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. Of the four overall and 14 mandatory review categories, Gunnison County’s 2016 budget received 15 total outstanding ratings, which represents an 87.5% increase over the eight outstanding ratings that the County received for its 2011 budget. In 2015, Gunnison County was one of only 11 (out of 64) Colorado counties to receive the award, and only eight awards have been reported thus far for 2016 budgets. “This award represents a level of recognition for creating a usable, informative document. We are pleased to see Gunnison County listed among the recipients in 2016, and I’m very proud of the team behind the process,” said Finance Director Linda Nienhueser.
In order to receive the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, the Administration Department had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation that have been designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device. Budget documents must be rated “proficient” or “outstanding” by at least two of the three reviewers in all overall categories and mandatory criteria to receive the award. An important characteristic of budgets that receive this award is that they include performance as well as financial information.
