Obtaining a NEW Colorado CHP (Concealed Handgun Permit)
If you are interested in applying for a concealed handgun permit from the Gunnison County Sheriff's Office, please read the following instructions carefully.

You may obtain a concealed handgun permit application by doing one of the following:
  • Download and print our application.
  • Pick up an application at the Gunnison County Sheriff's Office:

  • Call 970-641-1113 and request an application be sent to you.

Submitting Your Application
Please drop off your completed application with ALL additional information at the Gunnison County Sheriff's Office, located at:

           510 Bidwell Avenue
           Gunnison, CO 81230

What to Expect & Remember
A Sheriff's representative will notarize your signature when you drop off your completed application and all accompanying documents.

  • Don't forget to include a copy of your training certificate received from a certified instructor for the handgun or training course that you attended. Please remember that your training is good for 10 years from the date of issue.
  • Don't forget to bring a check for $152.50, made payable to the "Gunnison County Sheriff's Office".
  • Don't forget a copy of your valid Colorado drivers license.

Processing of your application can take up to 90 days or more. When we receive notification from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation that you have been approved, we will schedule an appointment with you to take your photo and issue your permit.
